A native of Ridgewood, New Jersey, Kerry now lives in Santa Monica, California, with her partner, screenwriter David Zorn. The First Time She Drowned is her debut novel. Persönliche MeinungDas Buch war ein total spontaner Kauf. Ich habe es gesehen, fand das Cover hübsch, den Klappentext interessant und habs einfach mitgenommen. Sowas habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gemacht, da ich die meisten Bücher irgendwie schon mal auf Instagram oder in den Vorschauen gesehen habe. Aber davor? Nada! Umso gespannter war ich! Das Buch war gut. Sehr gut sogar, aber es war auch echt heftig und schwer und sehr intensiv und nicht so auf die leichte Schulter zu nehmen. Ich hatte Anfangs so ein melancholisches Gefühl, dass ich bei Lost Boy und auch bei Teeth hatte und habe gleich gespürt, dass mir das Buch gefallen wird! «I go to my room and tear open the bag. Inside is a candle shaped like a Smurf and a small blue lighter to match. I think I’m supposed to laugh, but all I can do is cry.» Was mir nicht so gefiel war die naive Art der Hauptperson und dass die Szenen im JETZT sich teilweise unrealistisch anfühlten, respektive abliefen. Ich habe mich öfters beobachtet wie ich dachte: das hat sich die Autorin jetzt aber auch leicht gemacht. Aber man kann sehr gut darüber hinwegsehen, denn es geht darum die eigentliche Geschichte zu erzählen: Die einer kranken Mutter-Tochter Beziehung. Und diese Teile, diese Abschnitte waren mega! Die gingen unter die Haut, haben mich traurig, wütend, verletz gemacht, haben mich aufgebracht… man will die Leute einfach nur schütteln und sie fragen, was mit ihnen los ist! Sei das nun die Mutter, Cassie oder sonst jemanden. «A short time later I heard her singing happily, as if her life was everything she ever wanted.It was that night that I decided to kill myself. That nigt I stared at myself in the mirror, at my face so easy hit, and I realized that the person my mother really wanted to die was me.» Man sollte wirklich nicht vergessen, dass das Buch kein Zuckerschlecken ist und es möglicherweise nicht für jeden geeignet ist! Aber ich fands mega! Wenn man, dass bei so einem Buch überhaupt sagen kann und darf. Es war super emotional! Fazit: puh, das war Deep und intense!
